Can We Make A Difference?
Recently, Mr. Campbell was requested to assist as co-counsel in connection with the trial of the case of a motorcycle operator who left the road and collided with a telephone pole, sustaining disabling injuries. The target Defendant was the County responsible for maintaining the road. The theory of liability was that the County had not maintained adequate sight lines by trimming the brush and foliage along the road. There was no offer. After a three week trial, a jury in Ithaca, New York, found the County liable and awarded almost Ten Million dollars.
Mr. Campbell was also requested to assist as co-counsel in connection with the trial of a labor law case in Buffalo, New York, which the defense had retained formidable medical witnesses and obtained extensive surveillance video of the plaintiff. At the time, there was no offer on the case. Mr. Campbell was extensively involved in preparing and trying the case, and was instrumental in obtaining a verdict of over six million dollars ($6,000,000). In a post-trial decision, the trial judge expressed the following:
“The trial was presented to the jury in an efficient, cogent, strategic, intelligent and well-planned manner. The court witnessed the entire presentation to the jury. It appeared to this court that the presentation of the witnesses was the result of scrupulously detailed preparation and planning. The combination of three capable attorneys as co-counsel was as skillful a display as this court has witnessed over her 28-year tenure in the court system. It was apparent that an immense amount of work, skill and talent went into presenting this trial to the jury. The result speaks for itself.”
