As reported by WAER in the article “New York cracks down on drunk driving during Super Bowl week,” Governor Kathy Hochul has directed law enforcement across the state to intensify efforts to stop impaired driving during one of the year’s most high-risk weekends for road safety. The statewide initiative, running February 3–9, coincides with the Super Bowl and is part of a national campaign funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Committee.
The enforcement push includes increased police patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and stricter oversight of underage drinking laws. Last year’s campaign led to 262 DWI arrests and nearly 8,400 tickets for various traffic violations. This year, authorities are urging drivers to make smart choices before heading out to parties or sports bars.
