According to LocalSYR’s article, “NYSP boosts impaired driving patrols for St. Patrick’s Day,” New York State is intensifying its fight against drunk, impaired, and reckless driving during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period. Governor Kathy Hochul’s office announced that New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies will increase patrols and DWI checkpoints through March 17 as part of an annual traffic safety campaign funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
The enforcement push isn’t just about alcohol-related offenses—it also targets speeding, distracted driving, and violations of New York’s “Move Over Law.” State police will additionally conduct compliance checks at retail establishments to prevent underage drinking and illegal alcohol sales. Last year’s St. Patrick’s Day campaign led to 935 DWI arrests and nearly 25,000 traffic tickets issued statewide.
