As reported by The New York Times in “America’s High Drunk-Driving Limit,” several states are exploring legislation to lower the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit for drivers from 0.08% to 0.05%.
On March 5, the Hawaii State Senate passed a bill reducing the BAC limit to 0.05%, with the measure now under consideration in the state’s lower house. Washington state lawmakers are reviewing a similar proposal, and Utah has already implemented the lower threshold. In all other U.S. states, the current BAC limit remains at 0.08%.
