According to ABC7 New York’s report, “Subway worker in intensive care for injuries to his head after being struck by train in Brooklyn,” a 64-year-old Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employee is in intensive care after being hit by an out-of-service F train near the Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets station just after midnight.
The accident occurred while the worker, employed as a flagger, was part of a four-person crew inspecting rails overnight. A flagger’s job is to warn oncoming trains that track crews are ahead. According to the MTA, the train conductor immediately engaged the emergency brake, and the rest of the crew cut power to the line. Emergency responders transported the worker to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in intensive care with head trauma.
