As reported by Lawyer Monthly in their article, “How Common Are Pedestrian Accidents in NYC?”, New York City sees some of the highest pedestrian traffic rates in the U.S., making safety a major concern. Even with strict laws, designated walking spaces, and awareness campaigns, pedestrian accidents remain frequent. In 2019 alone, 121 pedestrians and 28 cyclists lost their lives in NYC traffic incidents.
Beyond fatalities, thousands of pedestrians suffer injuries each year due to collisions with buses, passenger vehicles, and cyclists. Recognizing the urgent need for improved safety, the city launched Vision Zero, a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing traffic-related injuries and deaths through infrastructure improvements, stricter enforcement, and public education.
