State Thruway worker hit, killed by vehicle on I-90 near Irving

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, NY – A State Thruway maintenance worker lost their life Monday morning in a pedestrian crash on Interstate 90 near Irving, reports Observer.

The fatal incident took place on the westbound side of I-90 (NY State Thruway) at mile marker 455.2, near the Buffalo Road overpass and Exit 58 to Silver Creek and Irving. At around 8:00 a.m., County EMS, Silver Creek and Irving fire department crews, local law enforcement, and a coroner were dispatched to the scene.

Officials have not released a statement indicating the events leading up to the crash, but the worker was pronounced deceased at the site after being hit by a motor vehicle.

By 8:15 a.m., all lanes from Exits 57A to 58 were shut down. While the westbound highway remained closed between Hamburg (Exit 57) and Silver Creek a few hours later, they were later reopened to normal traffic.

An investigation by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Thruway Authority remains in progress.
