1 Dead, 27 Left Injured After Tour Bus Overturns on I-490 in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, NY – One person died following a multi-injury, rollover crash involving a tour bus Thursday, November 7, near the Town of Chili, according to WKBW.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes of Interstate 490 at Union Street. It was first reported shortly after 7:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office indicates that the bus had departed from New York City at about 12:00 a.m. and was en route to Niagara Falls, having made a number of stops along the way.

Officials say the bus driver was speeding and appeared to be traveling over 70 mph just prior to the crash.

28 people aboard the bus had to be transported across four local hospitals. One of the victims later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver received citations for “fatigued driving, unreasonable speed, unsafe lane changes, and not wearing a seat belt.”

First responders arrived on the site the bus on its side, and many patients had to be extricated from the bus.
