ERIE COUNTY, NY – An eighth grade student lost her life Wednesday night, September 11, as a result of a pedestrian collision at a Grand Island intersection, according to WIVB 4.
The fatal incident unfolded at the intersection of South Parkway and Broadway, prompting a response from local police at about 8:00 p.m.
While the events leading up to the crash remain under investigation, officials said the juvenile was struck by a vehicle in the area.
A witness, responding officers, and ambulance personnel worked to administer life-saving measures to the victim, but she succumbed to her injuries.
No pending charges or citations have been reported at this time, but area residents have initiated a petition to have a traffic light and crossing signals established at the intersection.
