NIAGARA COUNTY, NY – A two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, September 10, in the Town of Somerset resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man, according to WGRZ.
The fatal accident took place in the area of Lake Road and Carmen Road, prompting a response from Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Officials say the 78-year-old man, of Lake Wales, Florida, was driving a 2024 Nissan northbound on Carmen Road. As he approached the intersection, he failed to yield to the right-of-way of a 77-year-old Wilson resident, who was operating a 2019 GMC eastbound on Lake Road. Moments later, the GMC collided with the Nissan.
The impact sent the GMC into a cornfield just northeast of the corner while the Nissan came to a stop in the intersection.
First responders had the driver of the GMC transported by ground ambulance to Lockport Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Nissan was rushed by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where he succumbed to his injuries.
Niagara County officials have not released further information at this time, but an investigation remains ongoing.
