UPDATE: Motorcyclist struck, seriously hurt on NY 5 near Wanakah Beach in Hamburg

ERIE COUNTY, NY – A 28-year-old man from West Seneca was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday afternoon after a motorcycle wreck on State Route 5 in Hamburg, reports WIVB 4.

The incident occurred on the westbound highway (Lake Shore Road) near Lakewood Avenue, just northeast of Wanakah Beach. Town of Hamburg Police and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 1:25 p.m.

According to officials, the man was operating a motorcycle eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the bike. Preliminary details indicate the motorcyclist had reacted to another vehicle before entering the westbound lane. Moments later, he was hit by an unspecified number of other vehicles.

The rider was rushed to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for major injuries. At the time of WIVB 4’s update shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, he remained in the hospital.

Part of Route 5 was blocked for hours during the response and initial investigation. No charges or citations have been confirmed as of this writing.
