CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, NY – Eight people were injured Monday morning, July 8, when a Chautauqua County Resource Center bus struck a residence outside of Silver Creek, according to Observer Today.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department officials said the incident occurred at 2036 Lake Avenue, off of Route 5, just north of the city. It was first reported at around 7:30 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate a 62-year-old Dunkirk man was driving the bus, which was carrying seven other occupants, when he appeared to lose control of the vehicle. Shortly after, the bus slammed through two fences and then into the home.
First responders had seven patients taken to Brooks-TLC Hospital for unspecified injuries. One other passenger was transported to Buffalo’s Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where their condition also remains undisclosed.
Officials said no injuries to anyone inside the residence were reported.
The bus driver, who was cited for speeding and making an unsafe lane change, is expected to appear in town court at a later date.
