ERIE COUNTY, NY – A tanker truck accident Monday morning, June 17, caused long delays for commuters on Interstate 290 near Amherst, according to WGRZ TrafficTracker2.
The crash, which impacted the eastbound lanes at Exit 5A to Millersport Highway (Highway 263), was first reported shortly before 8:07 a.m.
Local officials did not immediately indicate a cause of the crash, but the tanker truck and an SUV appeared to have been involved, leaving the left and right shoulders of the highway blocked.
At the time of the initial report, traffic had slowed significantly back to the I-990 interchange (Exit 4), and southbound traffic on I-990 was experiencing delays at the ramp to eastbound I-290.
From TrafficTracker 2’s Dave Cash: There’s an accident involving a tanker truck and an SUV on the left and right shoulders of the 290 East at Millersport Highway…traffic comes to a crawl at the 990, and the 990 South is very slow getting to the 290 East. @WGRZ pic.twitter.com/3iCnOgvaAg
