UPDATE: Multi-vehicle, head-on crash in Amherst leaves two injured

ERIE COUNTY, NY – Two people were injured, one critically, Wednesday morning in Amherst as a result of a crash involving four vehicles, reports WKBW.

The multi-vehicle collision took place on Sheridan Drive, west of The Village Green. Officers with the Amherst Police Department responded to the scene shortly before 10:00 a.m.

According to officials, a Jeep Compass was heading westbound on Sheridan when, for reasons still unclear, it veered into the eastbound lanes and collided with an oncoming red Ford pickup truck. The impact sent the Ford into the westbound lanes, where it struck a gray Toyota and then came to a stop. After leaving the roadway, the Toyota collided with a mailbox. The white Jeep Compass, which proceeded in the eastbound lanes, collided head-on with a blue Chevy pickup truck before both vehicles arrived at a stop.

First responders rushed the driver of the Jeep Compass to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). As of WKBW’s update late Wednesday afternoon, the patient remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevy was also transported to ECMC with unspecified injuries.

No injuries to the other two drivers were reported.

An investigation remains underway.
