Driver sent to hospital after crash on Route 5 EB into downtown Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY — Authorities responded to an injury collision Sunday evening on Route 5 heading into downtown Buffalo, according to WGRZ.

The accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. near the transition into the Buffalo Skyway, blocking a section of the eastbound highway between Ohio Street and Outer Harbor Drive.

While the events leading up to the crash have not been disclosed, a female driver was transported to Erie County Medical Center for unspecified injuries.

A City of Buffalo spokesperson said the other driver was questioned by Buffalo Police, but it’s unclear whether that driver is expected to be charged or cited.

While traffic had to be re-routed onto Ohio Street for the duration of the closure, but all lanes were reopened by 9:00 p.m.
