2-vehicle wreck at NE Buffalo intersection claims 2 lives, leaves 2 injured

BUFFALO, NY — Two people died following a crash involving a ride-share vehicle early last Thursday in northeast Buffalo that left two other people hurt, reports WIVB.

The accident happened on a stretch of Main Street near Humboldt Parkway at around 12:15 a.m.

According to Buffalo Police, a 23-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Dodge Magnum heading northbound on the road at a high rate of speed. At one point, the Dodge collided with a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 27-year-old Buffalo man who was trying to turn left onto Main Street.

First responders rushed the Toyota driver and one of his passengers, a 26-year-old Chagrin Hills, Ohio, resident, to ECMC, where they both later succumbed to their injuries. Two other passengers from the Toyota, both 31-year-old men from East Lake, Ohio, were also transported to ECMC. Officials said one patient was listed in critical condition and the other is determined to be in stable condition.

A further investigation found that the Toyota was operating as a ride-share vehicle at the time of the wreck. The driver of the Dodge has since been charged with “two counts of second-degree manslaughter, two counts of first-degree assault,” as well as multiple other “motor vehicle and traffic offenses.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role. The suspect, who faces as many as 25 years of prison time if convicted, is scheduled to appear in court on March 27.
